Together 202: Reimagining Complete Communities along a Connecting Corridor

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Together 202 is a pilot project for the Together North Jersey Local Demonstration Project Program spanning the municipalities along Route 202 between Flemington and Somerville. This project proposes to:
  1. Foster a working and collaborative network of interested citizens, residents, business owners, and stakeholders living in the communities to participate in the process and support project actions and outcomes
  2. Develop a deep understanding of the corridor to understand the opportunities for growth and connectivity along the corridor
  3. Develop a stakeholder-driven vision for the corridor that identifies opportunities and provides strategies that link land use to business development, redevelopment and transportation

The objective is a community-building corridor that not only enables mobility of all kinds – cars, transit, biking, walking – but supports locally-based objectives for economic development and community character.

KEY ISSUES
  • Adapting to changing economics and demographics
  • Reimagining land uses at opportunity areas
  • Forging corridor connections through transortation, programs and collaborations

RECENT UPDATES
Updated February 9, 2013
The project final report has been released and is available at the top of this page.
Somerset Freeholder Director Peter Palmer and Hunterdon Freeholder Deputy Director Matthew Holt welcomed over twenty-five project partners to the Final Presentation of Together 202: Reimagining Complete Communities along a Connecting Corridor in Somerville on May 20th.
Recommendations include creating more opportunities for walking and biking, reimagining vacant retail buildings to adapt to changing demand, and promoting agriculture and eco-tourism opportunities. Project partners helped the team to refine the report’s recommendations to ensure greater chance for implementation.

The latest presentation is available in the materials and resources page.
On July 31, a large group of public officials and stakeholders took part in a Walk Talk and Act Tour. A detailed description of that tour, along with many pictures is available here.
